Employment Background Screening

Part 2: Unemployment this Christmas Season – How Everyone is Coping

Many Americans are finding themselves in a financial bind for Christmas this year. Gifts may be slimmer, or not at all, and everyone is spending their dollars and cents more carefully. If you’re one of the millions of unemployed this season, or perhaps your company is experiencing a hiring freeze, reading these uplifting stories will help.

Many intelligent and educated professionals are foregoing the headhunters for now and taking a less-conventional approach: a retail or seasonal job for a paycheck. Though it’s the road less traveled, it’s become a bright spot in these two people’s Christmas holiday. These stories are from CNN Money in their special report this week.

Taking a Second Job on the Weekends

Though this Arlington, VA native still has a job in the communications field, money is so tight that he has had to take a second job in a retail ski store on the weekends. With part time hours at $8 an hour, this communications manager says that the money has really helped him handle bills and “replenish savings.”

It’s easy to see how just a little help can go a long way when it comes to a paycheck from a second job. Many Americans are finding that this is what needs to be done in this economy. Though this Sales Associate has already gone through an employment background screening and criminal background check for his full-time job, his new paychecks are his reward for a second job well done.

Financial Troubles in Canada Too

For a 38 year old Hamilton, Canada resident, bankruptcy was the last thing she thought she would have to resort to. As an independent consultant, her clients felt the pinch on their wallets months ago and that ended up having a direct affect on her own business. After almost a year of barely any work, she had to declare bankruptcy 3 months ago.

That’s when she decided to look for a job. But after finding that no one would call her back, she became discouraged. With Christmas around the corner, she wanted to be able to give gifts and have some money left over to stay afloat. With seasonal jobs now available, passing an employment background screening and criminal background check is all it took for her to get hired on the spot. Making just under $10 an hour, she is thankful to have steady income every two weeks that she can count on for now.

Seasonal Jobs Save Christmas for Many

With so many people experiencing difficult financial times and struggling, seasonal jobs have become a great way to bring in some money immediately. With jobs in retail opening up by the thousands every day, many folks are choosing to take a steady paycheck. Even though it’s a much smaller amount, it’s better than waiting for the elusive “perfect job” they thought they would have found by now. Thankfully, there are quick and accurate employment background screening and criminal background check companies like Accu-Screen who help these folks get hired right away!
