Employment Screening - Chart-Topping Employee Lies and Blunders That Will Have You Rolling - Part 3
In our final installment of the “top employee lies and blunders” series, these final “choice” employees have taken the award for the biggest lies, worst decisions, and most embarrassing exposures. Though you can’t always be 100% sure of what an employee is like in their private lives, find out as much as you can, prior to hiring them, by using an employment screening service like Accu-Screen to run a criminal background check, perform drug testing, check for resume lies, and to see if they really do have the degree they bragged about on their resume.
1. Forbes Magazine did a great story on several employees who made stupid mistakes on the job. The first one mentioned is that of an employee of the mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg. The employee thought it would be a great idea to whittle away his ho-hum day with a few dozen games of solitaire. Turns out that the Mayor isn’t keen on paying his employees to play computer games, so this employee now has more “alone” time at home to play solitaire games to his heart’s desire!
2. Drinking on the job probably gets lots of people fired each year. But do they do it publicly while reporting on a story for the newspaper they work for? In a stunningly brilliant move by a reporter in Michigan, chugging beer by the pint-full while reporting on a “beer pong” story wasn’t the best way to get ahead as a journalist. This party animal is now spending lots of time at home looking for another job…and now he’s got all the time on the world to get caught up on that new craze called “beer pong”. At least now he knows how to play it well!
3. One young fashion magazine’s reporter found that airing company dirt in the open isn’t such a profitable venture. After leaking juicy gossip in her blog about her boss’ horrible demeanor, office affairs by several employees, people who would likely be next to get fired for resume lies, and general nastiness, she was promptly let go. Good thing she learned a thing or two about fashion while she was there; dress well, young lady…you have some job interviews to go to!
4. One lovely young secretary decided that receiving an “inappropriate” note containing a proposition from her boss warranted a public display of her affection for him – she scanned his note and posted it online for the world to see. The executive was shamed, to say the least, and resigned immediately with no objections. The secretary still hasn’t been able to find a good date after her “technological IQ” was proven to be quite high!
Only the most grievous offenses like fraud, theft, violence, and embezzlement seem to make the news headlines with employees of less-than-average intelligence. Fortunately, there are employment screening services like Accu-Screen whereby employers can look deep into a person’s criminal record, expose the resume lies, and get a thorough report in 24 hours or less. Don’t let one of these “dumb employees” end up in your place of business!
