Robert Lane, a Suffolk County, NY resident criminal, was arrested in the summer of 2007 for impersonating a police officer. As if the flashing lights on top of his SUV weren’t bad enough, he also was carrying what appeared to be a police badge (later confirmed to be counterfeit). Lane attempted to stop a driver who had cut him off. As fate would have it, the “rude driver” he pulled over was an off duty police detective!

Lane flashed his lights at the detective, who pulled over, and then Lane pulled alongside him and flashed his “police badge”. The real cop in turn showed Lane his NYPD badge and a chase ensued. Lane was promptly arrested after backup arrived for not only impersonating an officer but for driving a vehicle without a driver’s license.
