Criminal Background Check - Some of the World’s Dumbest Criminals May Be Working for You
We’ve all seen the shows on televisions and have heard that unbelievable tales of criminals who seem to go out of their way to get caught. Con-artists, embezzlers, and fraudsters all think they are pretty slick when it comes to their crimes. But what about crimes that take place at work? What would you do if one of your co-workers, or even your own boss, were caught red-handed?
The best way to avoid ever hiring people like this is to employ the services of a trusted employment screening company like Accu-Screen; one that has been in the industry well before these crooks even got started. They can run an employment history screening as well as a criminal background check to help ensure that you’re hiring an honest employee. Here are some funny and entertaining criminal stories, courtesy of the “Dumb Criminals” Web site:
One Executive Vice President who worked at Fry’s Electronics was found to have been stealing money from the company and receiving large bribes from suppliers. How did everyone find out, you may ask? He unwittingly left spreadsheets on his desk detailing all of the bribes he had been collecting (ahem – for “accounting” purposes…right). Turns out that leaving hard copy evidence of your criminal actions is not such a wise idea.
Another executive found the papers and turned them in to the authorities. The VP who was caught was not only receiving monetary bribes from suppliers, but was also receiving free trips to Las Vegas where he regularly gambled to try and win even more money. He goes down in the history books as the only white collar criminal to have left a literal “paper trail” for the authorities to bust him with. He won’t have an easy time getting a job when a prospective employer runs a criminal background check!
Robert Lane, a Suffolk County, NY resident criminal, was arrested in the summer of 2007 for impersonating a police officer. As if the flashing lights on top of his SUV weren’t bad enough, he also was carrying what appeared to be a police badge (later confirmed to be counterfeit). Lane attempted to stop a driver who had cut him off. As fate would have it, the “rude driver” he pulled over was an off duty police detective!
Lane flashed his lights at the detective, who pulled over, and then Lane pulled alongside him and flashed his “police badge”. The real cop in turn showed Lane his NYPD badge and a chase ensued. Lane was promptly arrested after backup arrived for not only impersonating an officer but for driving a vehicle without a driver’s license. Any future employer will find out his past criminal acts with a simple criminal background check with an employment screening service.
Before hiring new employees, look into their backgrounds every time to avoid getting the “employee from Hell” like the two described here. With a thorough employment screening and a criminal background check, like the services provided by Accu-Screen, you can be sure to hire only the very best (and honest) employees!
