Criminal Background Searches – I only have about two to three employees for my home based business. Is it still necessary to conduct background checks on them?

It does not matter if you have one employee or hundreds of them, a background check is necessary for all businesses. A home based one even needs it more than most other types of businesses because the employees you hire will be able to enter inside your home and closely interact with your family.

A background check which reveals important information about a person’s background such as educational background, employment history, Social Security number, criminal records, drug testing records, credit reports, sex offender’s list, medical records, former residences, character references and so on  is a good tool for hiring an employee.

As an owner of a business, it is understandable that you would want to hire a qualified and competent applicant who will become an asset employee for your company. Verifying information on an applicant’s resume regarding his or her educational and employment background will be able to tell you if an applicant is really qualified for your company.

In addition to this, having a home based type of business, you would want to make sure that your family is kept safe at all times. As much as possible, you would want to stay away from people who have been involved in cases of felonies in the past and from those who have any outstanding warrants on their backs.

You would never want your family especially your children to have to do anything with employees who have had histories of violence, drug use or sexual abuse. You would never want to put your family in danger because their safety is always your top priority. The business is just secondary.

Background checks and criminal background searches are an employer’s best defense against dangerous people that may inflict harm not only on business but on your family as well.
