Criminal Background Checks on Camp Counselors
A recent rape case by an all-girls summer camp counselor brings to the forefront the importance of conducting not only pre-employment screenings on all camp counselors but criminal background checks as well. Of course a large hurdle for camps hiring these counselors is the age of those applying. Generally these are younger individuals who do not have criminal histories yet simply because their behavior has not got them caught yet. Camp owners should remain vigilant and continue these background checks on applicants every year even on returning workers. In the recent case a rape during the time off from camp occurred and the criminal check brought this to the light of the camp he had worked for several years.
