Checking An Applicants Past Work Experience

Many employers wonder why they cannot just call a past employer of an applicant and confirm job titles, job responsibilities, and overall performance that the applicant has stated on their resume. In the past this was a sufficient way to conduct a pre-employment screening on your applicant to find out if they were the best person for the position available. This does not really get the job done effectively any longer since past employers are now afraid of defamation lawsuits if the comments regarding the applicant are less than ideal. The only sure way to get a clear picture of your applicant, their skills, and any potential negative behaviors is by conducting thorough background checks on the applicants applying for a position in your company.
