Protecting Yourself from Negligence
Many employers have not considered the financial implications if there is an act of violence within there workplace by one of their employees on their other employees and customers. Most seem to have understood the income loss from potential down time, but since they consider themselves a victim of this violence as well maybe other costs have not been considered. As the employer if you do not perform a thorough pre-employment screening on all your applicants which includes a criminal history check or you can be found negligent in court and ordered to pay damages and legal costs for those who were harmed during the incident. It does sound far fetched to many employers that it could happen at their company, but it can happen. Give yourself a little insurance on negligence and perform background checks on those you hire to work for you.
